I wish I could see the expression of my Thai language teacher, Ajarn Thiraboon, who was patiently listening to me stumble along in rudimentary Thai or go on and on in English about Something Important! To his left is Ajarn Songkram, and at the far table are my friends Jenny, Chaz, and Joan, among others. We had just eaten lunch on a hot summer day during our ESL teacher training program in a secondary school in Chiang Rai, Thailand’s northernmost province. This would have been in May of 1975, about a month before our training group, Thai #51, headed off to our sites all over Thailand to begin the school year as secondary school English teachers. My friend Howard Stateman took this photo and many others, which bring back so many good memories.

Great photo! Looks like it was just yesterday. Candid photos are the best. 🙂
